Holy Shit I'm Old And Concert Tickets Were Cheap

Holy Shit I'm Old And Concert Tickets Were Cheap

I had trouble with spelling in the 5th grade because all we had was a children's dictionary. One late school night, when I was practically in tears because I couldn't look up some words for a spelling test, my older sister Ofelia, drove me to the only open grocery store and bought me Funk & Wagnalls dictionary so that I can be prepared.

I aced it.

I used that dictionary through high school, college and still have it today.

Tonight, while my son was going through it to find some words that he missed on his spelling test, he found this buried in the pages.

It's an old U2 concert ticket from their Unforgettable Fire tour. Take a close look at the year and the price.

Shepard Fairey Came To Dallas

OBEY

I'm a big fan of Shepard Fairey's work. After enjoying his OBEY Giant work for years, I finally found out who he was from an article in Print magazine, back in May of 2000. With most great artists (and musicians), he just recently hit the mainstream media with his world famous "Hope" poster of Barack Obama - back in 2008.

He's finally come to Dallas. What is really cool is that he did it for free.

Earlier this month, The Dallas Contemporary invited him to paint some murals around town. Within a week, he and his team left us with 5 really cool landmarks - 3 are on Singleton Boulevard, coming off of the new Margaret Hunt Bridge, 1 is along the wall near the Belmont Hotel, at Fort Worth Boulevard and Sylvan, and the 5th one is at the Dallas Contemporary.

Juggler

Juggler

This time I let my daughter give me an idea for a sketch. She wanted to see a clown on a unicycle. As much as I hate clowns, I had to comply. The chicken being juggled represents her, since that's one of our nicknames for her.

Shit I Sketch

Since I'm on the computer all day, pushing keys and buttons, I feel that I'm losing my ol'school hand skills. I've decided to make an effort to sketch and draw more. My goal is to have a creative outlet, while - hopefully - inspiring my kids to draw more.

BTW, some of these sketches are based on ideas that my kids came up with. Click here to see the complete set.
