My goal this year was to replace 720 miles of car trips with my bicycle, the equivalent of 2 tanks of gasoline. I reached that goal by the end of July.
However, I started questioning some of those trips. How many of them did I go further than I needed to, because riding my bike was just more fun? Were those miles an apples to apples comparison to what I would have done in my car?
I decided to alter my goal and just account for biking to/from work milage. Yesterday, I reached that goal with 730 miles. Those miles, along with all of the other trips, bring my season of commuting to 1,080 miles of driving replaced - a total of 3 tanks of gasoline.
I'm not finished yet.
